In 1927 The City of Edcouch had to depend on the cities of Mercedes and Edinburg for Fire Protection. After two or three disastrous blazes some 20 Citizens met on December 7, 1927 to organize a Fire Department of their own. The meeting was held at The Missouri Pacific Depot.

H.W. Dyche was elected Fire Chief and W.L. Forbes donated a lot for a fire station site. On January 18,1928 the Mercedes Fire Department donated a Ford Model T Truck and a two wheeled, hand drawn hose reel. Then on February 3rd of that year the Edcouch Firemen purchased a Packard Automobile from Roger Roark for $50, converted it into a fi

H.W. Dyche was elected Fire Chief and W.L. Forbes donated a lot for a fire station site. On January 18,1928 the Mercedes Fire Department donated a Ford Model T Truck and a two wheeled, hand drawn hose reel. Then on February 3rd of that year the Edcouch Firemen purchased a Packard Automobile from Roger Roark for $50, converted it into a fire truck, and two month old Department was going strong. P.W. Voight was elected Chief on December 20 to succeed H.W. Dyche. In 1929 Chief Voight was succeeded by H.D. Minyard who served for 20 years. In 1949 V.E. Leggett became Chief.

At the present time the Edcouch Volunteer Fire Department has 30 men and women on the roll, 19 of them being for certificatied and 11 read for certification. Equipment includes a 1,500 GPM Pumper with a 1000 gallon water tank and a 1250 GPM Pumper with a 1000 gallon tank. 2 F550 brush trucks with 500 gallon tanks 1 GMC 3500 with a 400 gal
